Company History

The History of Searson Buck

The original business, Searson & Associates, was established in 1988 with offices located in Hobart and Launceston. Four partners, including Stephen Porter a current Director, founded the business with the aim of building a strong human resource and recruitment firm.

By the mid 1990s Searson & Associates were in an established position as one of three major local recruitment firms covering temporary and permanent recruitment for executive, office and domestic staff. As well as providing HR advice and services, we held one of the first job network licenses enabling us to coordinate "Job Clubs" for the unemployed, with the initiative boasting a success rate amongst the best in the nation.

In 1998, ten years after Searson & Associates was established, the business took another significant step through a merger with Buck Human Resources to form Searson Buck. This saw the establishment of several new initiatives and a broadening of the business to provide additional human resource services.

Searson Buck Workforce, a separate business for labour recruitment and management was established in 1999 with its own Management and Board. Workforce's early success included winning the Duke Energy Natural Gas Pipeline contract, requiring labour staff recruitment and payroll assistance, worth several million dollars over the contract period.

Searson Buck's People Performance division was initiated in 2000, offering clients access to services concerned with managing, developing and retaining their staff. Our broad focus ranges from learning and development to human resources and industrial relations services. In addition, our international partnership with The Donington Group completes our service range through providing expert assistance in the area of outplacement and career transition.

In the north of the state, our business was strengthened by the appointment of Colin Cook as Director in 2002. Our Launceston and Burnie offices operate as a separate business, yet utilise the name, systems and support of Searson Buck to hold a reputation as the leading human resources firm in northern Tasmania, offering a full range of HR services.
