Blue Collar Labour Managment and Recruitment

Creating dynamic partnerships is what we do best.

Searson Buck Workforce (SBW) manages national and international programs and is proud to be Tasmanian owned and operated.

The team at SBW have purposely set out to be unique.

  • Unique because we prefer to work pro-actively rather than fix problems;
  • Unique because we consult with you to build an offer including features that really benefit your business; and
  • Unique because Searson Buck Workforce researches and implements business strategies derived from leading edge HR and business practice.

A snap-shot of our process and services:

1. TASK ANALYSIS AND PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING

It is important for SBW to understand the tasks proposed for our Contractors/field-staff.  For this reason, we work with the on-site supervisor/manager to complete a full-list of the typical tasks and physical demands required by the position.  This list forms a "job task demand schedule."  This process only takes a few minutes, but will play an integral role in the recruitment and medical assessment procedure.  For example, we have found it is critical for all Field-staff Contractors to participate in task rotation to ensure risk of injury is minimised, and this is built into work rosters.

2. RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION

SBW is committed to a recruitment and selection process that will result in the best candidates for your company.  Through careful consultation with your organisation we will develop a process which ensures that all parties interests are considered, the process is thorough and robust, and time and cost effective.  All candidates, regardless of their history or status, will be interviewed, reference checked and assessed consistent with the pre-determined criteria.

3. TRAINING AND INDUCTION

Each SBW Field-staff Contractor must complete a SBW company induction, which is tailored to highlight and address site specific risks, procedures and cultures.

These include topics such as:

  • Occupational health and safety awareness;
  • Performance expectations;
  • Support and rewards; and
  • Administration procedures.

4. OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY

Hiring causal staff through a third party (co-employment) presents unique challenges as SBW does not own or control the work environment.  For this reason we take the responsibility for the safety and well-being of our Field-staff Contractors seriously.  To fulfill our responsibility to our people we conducted the following before commencing our project:

  • Site tours;
  • Meetings with senior management and onsite supervisors; and
  • In the case were we have not had an opportunity to conduct a review of a client's organisation, we request the opportunity to become familiar with its processes. This may include an analysis of the client's OHS claims record and claims history. The SBW Operational Management Team undertake this review.

Once a project starts, we conduct:

  • Training and induction;
  • Regular tool box meetings with Field-staff Contractors; and
  • Where applicable, identify a SBW Field-staff Contractor to act on our behalf as an on-site supervisor.

When SBW engages with a client we work hard to integrate relevant systems and procedures to ensure workplace health and safety risks are addressed, minimised and where possible, removed.

5. EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE

At SBW we understand and appreciate the value of our greatest asset, our people.  SBW Field-staff Contractors whom we assign to our clients reflect the faces, functions and attitudes of our business.  Recognising this significance, SBW has a number of mechanisms to ensure its Field-staff Contractors receive the support and recognition they deserve.

  • Customer Service Representative: SBW provides a field Consultant to visit client sites regularly, specifically for client and Field-staff Contractor support.  This person can handle enquiries or suggestions face-to-face.
  • SBW Field-staff Contractor Awards: Searson Buck Workforce chooses to reward exemplary performance of its Field-staff Contractors with regular award programs.  Awards include prizes such as movie passes, dinners and wine gifts.  SBW encourages client companies to suggest Searson Buck Field-staff Contractors for these awards, where appropriate.

6. PERFORMANCE REVIEWS

SBW needs to review the performance of all SBW Field-staff Contractors on a regular basis. This assists us to ensure that every organisation is provided with high performing Field-staff Contractors.  Ideally, this process will include a representative from the client's organisation.

Each SBW Field-staff Contractor's performance is reviewed against performance standards established in the recruitment process.  This review will identify areas for training and development, potential for future permanent placement (if appropriate), and support for increased or varied responsibilities for the Field-staff Contractor's career development.

7. PAYROLL SERVICES

SBW will provide a comprehensive payroll service to your organisation.  This service will include:

  • Labour relations information including Federal and State Awards and legislation changes;
  • Human resource information system management including data input of Field-staff Contractor personal information and management of this employee database;
  • Employee assistance with salary and superannuation queries;
  • Timesheet entry, including confirmation of the manager's approval of hours worked;
  • Full payroll funding;
  • Payment of all statutory requirements, including superannuation and workers compensation, to relevant financial institutions;
  • Flexibility of payment terms resulting in positive cash flows for your business; and
  • Processing and issuing of payment summaries to each Field-staff Contractor.
