Shape the Future of Tasmania’s Forests from the Boardroom

Searson Buck is a Tasmanian owned and operated recruitment and staffing consultancy with more than 37 years of experience supporting senior leadership appointments across government, private enterprise and not-for-profit. Our appointment to the Tasmanian Government’s Executive Search Advisory Services Panel reflects our long‑standing reputation and deep understanding of the governance capability required to lead organisations operating in complex, publicly accountable environments.

Sustainable Timber Tasmania (STT) is embarking on a significant strategic transition and is seeking three exceptional Non-Executive Directors to join its Board. This is a rare opportunity to help guide not only the transformation of a business, but also the future of Tasmania’s vital resource sector.

STT is a respected institution with strong internal capabilities, robust systems, and a track record of industry leadership.

As an STT Director, you will:
  • Guide the organisation's long-term strategy, ensuring robust governance and the highest ethical standards
  • Provide independent oversight to successfully balance commercial performance, environmental stewardship, and maintaining community trust
  • Contribute expertise to high-level market reform, contract negotiation strategies, and policy engagement to secure STT’s future
  • Champion investment, innovation, and long-term market confidence in Tasmania's renewable timber resource
  • Act as an ambassador to strengthen public trust and key stakeholder relationships
We are looking for Directors who bring expertise in:
  • Forestry Operations: Operational forestry, supply chain management, and sector transformation
  • Financial & Commercial Acumen: Commerciality, financial oversight, and strategic investment capability
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Experience with government, industry, and community, including GBE and governmental insights
  • Legal Compliance:  Legal governance and regulatory compliance
Joining the STT Board offers a unique opportunity to help shape STT’s next chapter and provide sector leadership during a period of supply and economic transition.

You will contribute within a reforming policy context (GBE reform, Net Zero 2030), supported by a capable, engaged Board and executive team. The Board combines industry expertise, local market knowledge, and strategic vision.

Diversity and inclusion
In accordance with the Tasmanian Government’s Women on Boards Strategy 2020 to 2025, women are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application Requirements
All applications must include a covering letter outlining a response to the key governance areas identified in the advertisement and a current governance-orientated CV or Board profile.
